LOCATION: Faversham, KentDATE:1959SUBJECT: An all-action BR (SR)steam postcard view of Bulleid Un-rebuilt BB Class 4-6-2 249 SquadronBR No.34073 passing Wainwright L Class 4-4-0 BR No. 31779 with theBulleid locomotive seen here entering Faversham station with an expressworking.Faversham railway station is on the Chatham Main Line.It is 51 miles down the line from London Victoria.The original 1858 station (built for the East Kent Railway) was rebuilt in 1898 andis an example of London, Chatham & Dover Railway architecture. The buildings are listed, and have been wellmaintained by Network Rail inrecent years. A brick engine shed (also Grade II listed) has, however, falleninto ruinous condition at the junction to the east of the station, mainly dueto its inaccessibility. A further engine shed, formerly on the Faversham Creekspur has now been renovated and converted as offices. Sidings and other smallbuildings remain, some a legacy from pre-electrification days (1959) whenFaversham Shed (73E) was of some importance.
