Robert Pitcairn was a Pennsylvania Railroad Superintendent who ordered and oversaw the construction of the rail yard along Turtle Creek near Pittsburgh that would become the largest rail yard in the world.  Pitcairn was a member of the South Fork Fishing and Hunting Club. When the South Fork Dam collapsed on May 31,1889 causing the Johnstown Flood, Pitcairn was responsible for sending the first relief train to Johnstown to assist flood victims.  The item for sale is a nice original one page contract dated December 6, 1877 measuring 8″ x 12″, in which the National Bank of Fayette County agree to sell to The South West Pennsylvania Railway Company a parcel of land with a two story brick building erected thereon situate at the southeast corner of Main Street and Bank Alley in Uniontown, Fayette County, Pennsylvania,at a price of $7000.   Signed by Robert Pitcairn for the railway company and also signed by John K. Ewing as president of the Bank.   Purchase comes with an internet Pitcairn biography an a nice 5″ x 7.5″ glossy photo.
