I amselling items from my late fathers collection of ephemera, collected over hislifetime.Iwill combine postage if you buy more than one item.An Act for making a Railway from Charing Cross to the Waterloo Station of the London and South-western Railway to be called the Charing Cross and Waterloo Electric Railway, 18th August 1882.This company was established in 1881 to consturct an underground railway in London. They proposed a line between a station under Trafalgar Square and Waterloo. The plan was similar in concept to that proposed by the Waterloo and Whitehall Railway in 1864 which did not materialise.This was the first railway company to propose electric traction for its trains and was supported by Sir William Siemens and his brother. His brother, Werner von Siemens had demonstrated the first electric railway in Berlin in 1879.Permission to construct the line was granted by Parliament on 18th August 1882 (as outlined in this original document). The extension was opposed by the Metropolitan Board of Works and the extension bill was withdrawn the next year. William Siemens died in Nov 1883 and the company was abandoned in 1885.Early history of the London Underground and a very rare and valuable document.22 pages. Disbound. Measures 10″ tall by 7″ wide. Very faint foxing to left blank margin of first page, otherwise reasonable condition for age – see photos for condition.Scarce, none on Ebay.A genuine piece of railway history relating to the London Underground.
