1892 MEXICO Railway Pass Ferrocarril Mexicano del Norte Royal Engineers India
Annual pass for Ferrocarril Mexicano del Norte. 10 x 6 cm (4 x 2.4 inches). Glue and paper remnants on reverse as visible in scans, otherwise very good condition. Engraved by Rand McNally.
Issued to Col. Wm Shepherd, RE, Actg Dir, The Michoacan & Pacific Ry. Co. Son of an officer in the East India Company Service, William Shepherd was born in Bangalore, 1842, and was educated at the Royal India Military College in Addiscombe, where he earned the Pollock Prize as the top member of his class in 1859. He served in the Bengal Engineers and the Royal Engineers for thirty years, primarily on the Indian railways. Following retirement, he served on the boards of the Western Railway of Mexico and the Michoacan and Pacific Railway Company (see various 1890s editions of Poor’s Manual of Railroads and the Universal Directory of Railway Officials.)
