Circa early 1900s Brotherhood of Rail Road Trainmen Juanita Lodge #498 (Huntingdon, Pennsylvania) ribbon by Whitehead & Hoag, with its original presentation envelope and cardboard insert. This ceremonial ribbon has a black silk memorial ribbon on the back. The large top pin could be reversed for wearing at Brotherhood funerals.
Acceptable to good condition with much wear and restoration on the ivory silk ribbon on the front. It has horizontal shred lines and has been reinforced at the top and back with vintage fabric. It’s still very fragile, but the gorgeous three-dimensional silk flags are perfect, as is the medallion at the bottom. The ribbons underneath are strong and excellent with intact spring wire fringe at the bottom. There’s some wear on the silver printing on the red/white/green ribbon, plus an impression made by the round medallion. The Whitehead and Hoag mark is found on the medallion and the top pin as well as at the top of the ribbon underneath it. There’s an October 18, 1882-March 7, 1893 copyright on the top of the black ribbon. The envelope has some storage wear with two punctures, dents, light wrinkles and edge wear; the cardboard insert has a bend and some staining. Not sure if this item was distributed as a sample, since the envelope carries a range of patents and advertising for the company. The ribbon measures 2 1/2 x 9″ (with the top pin and fringe) and the envelope measures about 3 1/2 x 9 1/2″. A great Brotherhood item despite the damage to the ivory ribbon.
