A rare booklet from the Mersey Docks and Harbour Board of the Birkenhead Dock Railways bye-laws from 1921. Printed in Liverpool.
It has nine pages, including the fold-out map but not including covers. The map states “Revised 1931”, so the booklet is from then at the earliest. It looks and feels to me that it’s from about that time, certainly not much later. The map includes GWR, LMS and LNER goods stations.
Although the staples are rusty, they are still doing an excellent job and all pages are firmly in place. As shown in the photos, the covers are stained with water damage, and there’s a small nick on the front and a small tear on the back. Inside there are no tears, just creases and a bit more water damage.
Everything is perfectly readable. There are no funny smells, just the expected mustiness. There’s no writing other than six small crosses on the right-hand side of the map.
