The BNSF winds its way through the mountains…This highly scenic crossing is called ABO Canyon.The railroad crosses seven bridges through the canyon and Rich Scheid captures all seven bridges from many different angles, As Rich hikes through the canyon down below track level and above. Well start out in Belen New Mexico and head north over the Rio Grande to Albuquerque. Then after visiting Albuquerque well head north to Cerrillos, New Mexico then to Lamy New Mexico near Santa FE.Well then climb aboard a Santa FE Southern train and ride in the cab of a GP low nose locomotive on up to Santa FE New Mexico on the old Santa FE spur line up to Santa FE, and visit the depot and town. Next well climb aboard the short line back to Lamy, here well follow the old Santa FE mainline up through Apache Canyon, over Glorietta Pass and continue north to Las Vegas New Mexico.Next on to Wagon Mound over the Cimarron River and on to famous Raton, New Mexico and its historic depot. The ATSF route to the Pacific and Los angeles California was completed in 1885 by the California Southern Railroad and bought by the ATSF in 1902.We will start this journey in downtown L.A. at L.A. Union Station. We will then climb aboard an eastbound commuter train and head for San Bernardino and visit the large intermodal yard at the base of Cajon pass. From San Diego’s Union Station and up the surf line we travel through Old Town, Sorrento Valley, Del Mar, Solona Beach, Carlsbad, Oceanside, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Anaheim, and take a tour of L.A. Union Station, we watch trains come in and out of the Station platforms and pass the tower.We continue north of L.A. up the old Southern Pacific Line and up the coast to Santa Barbara, stopping at towns like Glendale, Camarillo, Ventura, Dulah, and Seacliff, watching trains round the bays at the foot of coastal mountains with plenty of great surf shots along the way. We stop at Carpinteria California, we take a good look at Santa Barbara, the depot, and its many trains, and we take a
tour of town.
