LOCATION: Paisley Gilmour Street, Renfrewshire
DATE: 29th July 1965 SUBJECT: A late BR Scottish steamera photograph of ex-LMS Fairburn 4P Class 2-6-4T BR No. 42243 seenhere just before being taken out of service and awaiting its passengers at Paisley Gilmour Street a few years prior to electrificationof the stations through lines. The station was opened on 14July 1840 on the route of the old GPK&AR. The station was electrified aspart of the 1967 Inverness Line. The Ayrshire Coast Line platforms (thennumbered 1 and 2) were wired, however the wires finished a short distance westof the station. Acting as the towns principal railway station, it is nowprotected as a Category B Listed Building. Built at Derby Works, this engine entered servicewith the LMS as running No. 2243 at the end of WW2 in September 1946. She wasallocated to Polmadie (27A) shed and remained working lines in lowland Scotlandas BR No. 42243 until withdrawal off Polmadie in August 1965, after just shortof a mere 19 years service life. CONDITION: Excellent clean & unmarked save foridentification details hand written to reverse (see scan). Always kept in analbum and still with good sharp corners and edges. PHOTOGRAPHER: Unknown.
