LOCATION:Shipton, Yorkshire DATE: Undatedbut 1950s SUBJECT: Forfans of main line running this classic lineside photograph captures ‘GresleyA4 Class 4-6-2 Sir Nigel Gresley BR No. 60007 passing at speed thehalfway marker between London and Edinburgh.

It can be seen from the locomotives shed plate that she was allocated to KingsCross (34A) shed at the date this photograph was taken, and which was her homeshed from June 1950 and throughout the 1950s. By 1964 she had been transferredto Aberdeen Ferryhill (61B) shed where she was utilised on the three hourexpresses between Aberdeen Glasgow. She withdrawn by BR off Ferryhill shedduring February 1966 following just in excess of 28 years combined service.Happily not sold for scrap but sold in May 1966 to the A4 Preservation Society. Note:The ECML is approximately 393 miles long (Kings Cross to Edinburgh) and it is188.5 miles to York, so the ‘half-way’ point is about 8 miles north of York,and where the half way sign is still very much there today just north of theShipton road bridge.  CONDITION: Excellent clean & unmarked save for photographers stamp (this hardly shows and has to be held to the light to be seen) to reverse. Always kept inan album   PHOTOGRAPHER:Cecil Ord Collection Cecil was a renowned York-based railway photographer whodied in the late 1960s. TYPE:Unbordered b & w gloss finish (5.5 x 3.5)” enprint and copyright photograph.
