LOCATION: TibshelfTown, DerbyshireDATE: Undated butc. 1959-63
SUBJECT: A nowlong-lost Derbyshire railway scene of ex-ROD/LNER Robinson O1 Class 2-8-0BR No. 63784 seen here probablystationary and awaiting signal clearance to proceed having descended thegradient into Tibshelf Town with its unfitted train.Built by the North British company, she entered service with the militaryas ROD No. 1881 but with no record of her having served abroad at all. An LNER locomotivefor some 20 or so years, she was absorbed into BRs fleet during 1948 as No.63784. Utilised in the main for coal traffic, she was allocated to Staveley (G.C.)shed and from where she was withdrawn during August 1963.  The station at Tibshelf Town was opened by the Manchester & Sheffield& Lincolnshire Railway in January 1893. By the time of Dr Beeching, theline was considered to be a duplicate of the Midland main line and to the sadnessof so many railway enthusiasts was the first main line to be closed by BR. Thestation itself was closed to passengers at the beginning of March 1963, butonly closed completely during May 1964.
