After building A Stuart Turner Swan engine for use in a river launchwhich I also built I decided on a larger engine for a larger boat . Sadly thisonly got part way and I am not going to finish this project at this stage in mylife. Hence the sale.The engine is a Leak 8HP twin cylinder compound steam enginemanufactured from castings and part complete; all large (and heavy) majorcomponents made and assembled including bed, crankshaft and main bearings,support columns, piston rods, and crossheads. The air pump is 50% complete, but valve gear, pistons, feed pumps andassociated levers have not been started though castings are available for all items requiring them. Remainder require mild steel or brass stock materials. Set of piston rings and plans will be supplied – and construction isfully described in Model Engineer Nov – Dec 1982. Anyone with a Myford sizelathe should have no difficulty tackling the remaining parts.Engine is 20″ high x 14″ long x 15″ wide and weighsaround 70 kg as assembled but delivery might be more convenient for man-handlingif the head (31 kg) is separated from the base,columns and crankshaft (38 kg)plus castings (21kg).Condition is excellent, no wear, no corrosion, no damage.
