An original LNER series Railway Carriage Print issued in the late 1940s/ early 1950s for display in railway carriages. The print survived from the railway stores in the late 1960s and is NOT a reproduction. This Ufford is the one north of Woodbridge in Suffolk. Squirrells perspective turns what is really a narrow lane into a wide expanse. Otherwise a scene of little change. The major feature is the tower of St Mary’s Church. The church was renamed owing to the reformation and there then followed a series of visits by William Dowsing who was not happy with the sympathies of the locals . The quality of the interior furnishings here are of considerable interest, aided by a lot of work during the 19th century Anglo-Catholic revival. The best piece has to be the six metre high 15th century font cover. Outside and at the other end of the street, visitors can regale themselves in the White Lion, which in 2006 remained a very characterful old fashioned Suffolk pub.. The painting is by the renowned East Anglian artist Leonard Squirrell RWS RE. These prints are very collectable and are far easier to display than a railway poster (and less expensive, too!). Overall Size 20″ x 10″ (508 x 254mm), Image Size 16″ x 6″. It is in mint, unused condition and I will post, 2nd class delivery in a strong tube.
