Reviews:
I picked up a copy of “The Road to Paradise” on one of my visits to the Strasburg Railroad several years ago. The book is a brief history of this railroad by Wm. Moedinger, one of several individuals who was instrumental in making this railroad one of the premier tourist railroads in the United States. Moedinger tells the story of how the railroad was saved from abandonment and how it was rebirthed as a tourist line. The book also contains a brief account of its engines and rolling stock. And, of course, there are numerous black-and-white pictures of the railroad in action. The book provides the real flavor of what this railroad, that winds through the Amish country of Lancaster County, PA, is like. (It also contains a helpful map of the railroad, which anyone who plans on riding the railroad will want to peruse.)
Several years ago when visiting the Strasburg Railroad gift shop I picked up a copy of Wm. Moedinger’s book. Moedinger was influential in making this railroad one of the best and best-known tourist railroads in this country. In “The Road to Paradise” he tells the story of how this railroad was saved from abandonment and became a tourist line. In addition, the book contains a description of the engines of the Strasburg Railroad, as well as its rolling stock. The book has quite a few pictures (mostly black and white) of the railroad in action, and also contains a helpful map of the railroad, which I recommend to anyone planning on visiting the railroad.
