This book is a unique photographic record of the twilight of Spanish steam, an extraordinary collection of both modern machines and relics from the loco foundries of nineteenth century Europe.
Lawrence Marshall is a retired senior bank manager. Born in 1930, he started his career in Lloyds Bank in 1951. Previously he had been in the Royal Air Force and worked for a year with Hudswell Clarke & Co. Ltd, a well-known locomotive builders based in Leeds. He first visited Spain in 1956 and developed a love for that country and her fascinating railways. As a result of his travels he wrote a book entitled Steam on the RENFE, published in 1965, which still forms the only definitive illustrated catalogue of RENFE steam power.
