Muni former O’Farrell, Jones & Hyde cable car 42 is on Hyde Street at Hyde/California pulling in on September 26, 2015, during Muni’s annual Heritage Weekend.  Regular California cable car 51 is inbound behind. Now imagine that this scene happened in 1954 or earlier, when the two lines crossed. (O’Farrell, Jones & Hyde was abandoned in 1954, but the Hyde Street portion was resurrected as Powell/Hyde in 1957.) So, for a brief moment, special car 42 is on home rails!. The carbarn for both lines was previously located at the southwest corner.  The two lines never were connected, but were housed on different levels of the barn. O’Farrell cars crossed California and turned eastward on Pine. In the distance, the old Whitcomb Hotel, Bernal Heights Hill and San Bruno Mountain. Also, car 51 had been the last O’Farrell car back in 1954, and had just recently been rebuilt!
