HENNING, MAJ. B.S., & LOCKWOOD, J.B.  BROADSIDE. The Leavenworth, Lawrence, and Galveston Railroad Co. Have Here 200,000 Acres of the Richest Farming Lands in Kansas Which They Are Now Selling At $3.20 per Acre, Cash.  Ramsay, Millett & Hudson, Railroad Printers, Engravers, Etc. Kansas City, (MO). [1876]  Unknown Imprint.  According to Cutlers History of Kansas, 1883, the L,L&G was chartered in 1858 as the Leavenworth, Lawrence and Ft. Gibson [I.T.].  By 1863 the name was changed to the Leavenworth, Lawrence and Galveston. In 1864, by an act of the Legislature of Kansas a great deal of lands were granted to the L,L&G, the most prized of which was the Neosho Valley of Southern Kansas, ceded by the Osage people. By 1871 the line had finally extended to Coffeyville and the L.L.&G began heavily promoting their lands for sale. Major B.S. Henning, a notable veteran of the Civil and Indian Wars and a driving force in the Kansas Railroad business served as General Superintendent.  Hennings efforts to promote these lands for sale were great. According to McCoys, Historic Sketches of the Cattle Trade southern drovers of Texas were courted with fervor by Henning and the L,L&G, and the great herds were coaxed onto grazing grounds of the Neosho Valley to be shipped to Kansas City.  Date of printing positively identified within ornamental header, Corn Yield for 1875; 70,000,000 Bushels.  Directly across from, Corn Yield Estimate for 1876, 130,000,000 Bushels.  In April of 1879 the L,L,&G consolidated with other railroads and ceased to operate by that name.  Unrecorded Imprint; Not in KansasImprints Inventoryor Kansas Hawley/Farley Supplement Not in Dary, Kanzana.  Not located online.  31.5 x 8.  Fine Condition.  Fold lines and light age toning present, but minimal.
