Amtrak California Zephyr SIX (6) Blank Seat Checks From 1999 With Seat Numbers
Seat Checks are unused and new, however there are minor signs of wear being they are from 20 years ago, see photos.
For a short time, Amtrak printed separate seat checks for certain western routes.These seat checks were in bundles numbered for all seats of a Superliner coach car seat numbers 1-76. In these bundles were 6 additional seat checks with a blank seat number as well as a destination line. These are connected in pairs so that each double seat indicates a window or an aisle (window seats are numbered odd, aisle seats always even) Although this would have been a nice touch if more organization prevailed among train crews, these proved to be problematic due to passengers changing seats, as well as attendants and conductors not assigning seats, matching incorrect seat numbers with the correct destinations, and even using the wrong train’s print such as “California Zephyr” seat checks on the “Silver Star”! Worse still, these seat checks included seat numbers that did not even exist such as the location of the stairwells in the upper level of coach cars as the seat numbers were reflected to be consistent with the layout of the car! So in the end, these were discontinued, and very few remain. Certainly a great piece of Amtrak history to have so get these while these last!
