Because the old steam age railfan photographers used 616 and 122 postcard size film which are super long on one side and do not work well with traditional 5×7 or 8×10 prints. The 5×8 print just fits so much better and works great for steam locomotive portraits. However if you want a traditional 5×7 print just add it to the notes at checkout and I will print them 5×7. If you would like a larger size print, just let me know.

UltraPro is a resin coated, photobase paper with a brilliant white finish. Bright white papers like UltraPro are particularly good at reproducing deep blacks and higher contrast. Your black & white photos will be neutral and crisp. All prints are made fresh when ordered. I’ve been collecting and printing railroad steam locomotive negatives and prints since 1984!
