This is a cast iron works plate / builders plate from an S160 wartime US austerity locomotive. This has been shown to a couple of experts in the US who are happy that is genuine. Despite lack of paint there is some bolt hole wear. Correct raised Baldwin pattern number or code to the rear. I’m told this type of plate was used instead of the more familiar round Baldwin version. Curved pieces to the rear, from the smokebox type fitting. From the research I have done, this locomotive was shipped to England then went into the large store on the GWR, prior to being shipped to Europe post D-Day. It was not one of the recorded ones working here. It finished its life working in Poland, the collector I brought it from was Polish, which figures. Size 189mm 319mm, will be well wrapped for postage. Thanks for looking.
