You’re bidding on “Betts’s New Map Of Scotland”, published by John Betts, London – no date indicated, but the advertising within the binding promotes a “corrected to Jan. 1853” edition of the Betts Family Atlas, for a basic reference point. “Embracing all the principal objects of interest to the tourist, and showing the various lines of railroad, the turnpike and principal cross roads, canals, lakes, rivers, etc., etc.” Nice, large – 26 1/4″ X 30 1/2″ – linen-backed folding steel-engraved map with beautiful hand coloration, and in it’s original 4 3/4″ X 8″ book-style binding.
Note that the map does have tack holes at the corners, and the binding does have some minor edge/corner bumping and fade, particularly on the spine – see photos – still very nice condition for age and type, and the map is clean, bright and solid, in basically 1853-level condition.
Great example – please review photos carefully to make your own determination of overall condition and appeal, and don’t hesitate to ask any questions prior to bidding – thanks for looking!
