British Rail Locomotive 3977 (08 809) PD Tag. Condition is Used. Dispatched with Royal Mail 2nd Class.

You are bidding on ONE Parts Designation Tag originally usedto identify components designated for particular B.R. Locomotives. This tag would have been carriedon board the specified locomotive for tens or sometimes hundreds of thousandsof miles of active service and is probably the cheapest way to get a numbered souvenir of an actual railway locomotive. (A photograph of the tags that I accumulated is attached todemonstrate that these are genuine items some can be seen to have traces of interiorpaint and one was actually sprayed with BR Locomotive Blue).The majority were obtained from obsolete train HeatingBoilers (Spanner/Stones/Clayton) en-route for scrapping. These were systematicallyremoved during the late 1970s as steam heated coaching stock was withdrawn andreplaced with electric train heated stock. When this occurred, it was necessaryto replace the train Heating Boiler with a concrete counter-weight and severalof the tags for sale were attached to these and then discarded afterinstallation. Sold as seen (they were never intended to become artefactsand many are a bit rough and ready but none the less, authentic) UK biddersonly please.This Tag originates from an engine-side panel on locomotive 3977 (08 809). The PD tag was already attached when the panel was sprayed (hence the BR Blue)
