This is a scarce, very nice condition vintage brass Buffalo & Sesquehanna Railroad switch lock from the mid 1930s – early 1940s with the correct matching key, and original chain. The 1967 on the shank is not a year marking, but most likely a usage location number. It is made of thick bass plate riveted together through the lock mechanism housing. The key slot cover has excellent spring tension, and the lock opens and closes perfectly. As you can see in the pictures, both the lock and key have great patina from their railroad use.
The Buffalo and Susquehanna Railroad was a railroad company that formerly operated in western and north central Pennsylvania and western New York. It was created in 1893 by the merger and consolidation of several smaller logging railroads. It operated independently until 1929, when a majority of its capital stock was purchased by the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. At the same time, the B&O also purchased control of the neighboring Buffalo, Rochester, and Pittsburg Railway. The Baltimore and Ohio officially took over operations of both roads in 1932.
This would be a very nice addition to any B&S, B&O, lock & key, or railroadiana collection.
