Please study the photos and note the brown stains on each corner of both tickets (top surface only) – these are residue marks from long ago dried out and vanished Sellotape as these were once stuck in a scrapbook.
Here we have TWO TICKETS used by myself on the Ryde – Newport – Cowes railway line, which closed on 20th February 1966.
One is a single and one is a cheap day return, both are green, both are stamped CHILD in red, and both are second class.
THEY ARE:
1096 is a single from Newport to Ryde St Johns Rd via Ashey and is date stamped 19 NOV 65 (and has been clipped). The fare has been changed in ink from 1/2d (one shilling, two pence) to 1/3d (one shilling, three pence).
4761 is a day return from Newport to Cowes/Cowes to Newport and is dated stamped 18 FEB 66 (the stamp is a little hard to read) – THIS WAS JUST 48 HOURS BEFORE THE LINE CLOSED TO PASSENGERS – there is a little very minor vertical creasing to the return portion.
