32mm plastic Canteen token from the London Midland & Scottish Railway Loco Works at Derby, 1923-1947.
I have described this type as “unrecorded” as I have never previously come across it in over twenty years of collecting Derbyshire tokens. When I began I was told by more experienced local collectors (from the Derbyshire Numismatic Society and several who had themselves worked on the railway in Derby) that there were only seven varieties of the Canteen check (combinations of colours and shapes) and in the succeeding years I had no reason to doubt this.
Recently, however, I have bought a small collection which included this check. It is the only duplicate in the collection and, unfortunately, after this I shall have no more of any of these checks to offer for sale.
