This is a 5″gauge steam engine modelled after a London, Brighton & South Coast Railway E6 Class, 0-6-2 Tank which entered service in 1904 designed by D J

Billinton, built in their Brighton works, displaying post -grouping Southern Railway livery & number 2403. I obtained it in the late 50s, there were many manufactured by a little known firm G L Philips of London.

Many similar models were made representing other pre-grouping railway companies engines commissioned by The Gas Light & Coke Co. LTD to be displayed in coal/coke merchants retail shops windows with waggons filled with coal/coke, The GL&C Ltd ceased trading but their retailors/merchants continued trading many years after, retaining the display, this one was displayed in a shop in Station Parade, Finsbury Park, from where I purchased it.

It’s made of metal, only the smoke box & mount, fire -tube boiler & firebox are made with hard wood with brass hand-rails,splasher beads and chimney, it has flanged wheels. It measures from buffer-to-buffer 27″ (680mm) and weighs 7Kg (15lbs), There is a short length of display track which can be included .

It’s best collected from WD6 3RA (Elstree, Herts.) the best courier costs I’ve obtained is 170.00 subject to destination , buyers can arrange their own ‘collect & deliver’ courier..
