Riding the Tyne ValleyCarlisle to Yorkvia Hexham, Low Fell and the ECML
This is a cab ride from Carlisle to York, filmed from the cab ofDRS Class 66/3 66301 on a light engine move – coupled to 66430.
Departing from Kingmoor depot we travel via the scenic Tyne Valley route passing the many traditional signals, signal boxes and stations dotted along the line. As well as the magnificentsignal box structures at the likes of Hexham and Wylam, the railway skirts the River Tyne for many miles, passing through open countryside and farmland.
Approaching Newcastle, we are routed via the freight only curve to Low Fell and this is followed by sections of 75 mph running along the East Coast Mainline, passing Durhamand Darlington and finally arriving at the former parcel sidings at York.
Filmed on a fine sunny day, as well as the cab ride itself, we pass a staggering number of  passenger and freight trains and  at one point, run parallel with a coal train!
Includes maps, part narration and on-screen captions
Produced with the full co-operation of DRS.
