That design was theFP45.
The design was successful enough to result in several permutations andadditional sales to other railroads.
A freight version was also built, the F45,which went to the Santa Feand, later the Burlington Northern.
Specialty cowls also included the SDP40Fand F40C.
There were FP45s for the Milwaukee Road,Amtrak SDP40Fs, EMD test units, and commuter F40Cs.
These four models are considered the ‘classic cowls’. A chapter on each ownerof these cowls are presented plus appendices of locomotive specifications anddiagrams and a cowl unit roster. This book features them all in color too!Contents:
