LOCATION:  Buxton, DerbyshireDATE: 11th February 1967SUBJECT: ‘ex-LMS ‘8F’ Class 2-8-0 BR No. 48171′- seen here from an interesting angle just below the third over-bridge along Lightwood Road, Buxton. The engine is easing its load of flat wagons  having just rounded the curve off the line from the limestone quarries south of Buxton between Blackwell and Peak Dale. The piece of material caught on the barbed wire fencing adds to the atmosphere of the photograph and is probably a wind-blown cleaners’ rag from the nearby, ex-LNWR engine shed which was situated this side of the lines.48171 (LMS No. 8171) was a member of a batch of William Stanier’s 8F class built by the LMS at Crewe during 1943. It had been a Willesden (1A) based engine all of its life, and previously transferred to Buxton (9L) from Newton Heath (9D) in Manchester, but within 7 months of this photograph being taken 48171 was withdrawn from service by BR in September 1967.CONDITION: Very good – always kept in a loose leaf album to which it had been adhered using backing paper (now carefully removed – no damage at all). PHOTOGRAPHER: Unknown.TYPE: Unbordered B & W (7.0 x 5.0)” original darkroom photograph. All my postcards are tissue paper-wrapped and supported between stiff cardboard for maximum protection via the post – see previous good Feedback from earlier buyers of my vintage postcards and photographs. From a smoke-free home
