On the 4th of May 1969 The Stephenson Locomotive Society organised a farewell tour of the GNR lines in the Derby, Nottingham and Leen Valley areas .
On this tour , with his Super 8 cine and stills cameras , was a young Alan Thompson who made a unique and detailed record of this final journey. This collection of photographs and cine film remained in Alans care for over 30 years until Derby Trader Heritage columnist Ron McKeown wrote an article about the GNR lines. This prompted Alan to contact Ron who on seeing the collection, realised their historical importance and obtained Alans permission to produce this video.
The rest, as they say, is history.
Running Time Approx 39 Mins.
