Flying Scotsman E P Record of Steam Sounds Inside The history of a famous engine   Flying Scotsman E P Record of Steam Sounds Inside The history of a famous engine in pictures and words. 1969   Approx 24 pages Alan Pegler, owner of the Flying Scotsman, knows more about the workings of the British Railways system than most people- This 48-year-old Nottinghamshire businessman served on the former British Transport Commission Eastern Area Board, and after re-organisation on the Eastern Railway Board. He is a member of a great British industrial and railway family, and was formerly Chairman and Managing Director of the Northern Rubber Co. Ltd. He is, in addition, Chairman of a statutory railway company in North Wales, the picturesque and lovely little Festiniog line, target of legions of visitors from overseas. Alan Pegler’s devotion to steam locomotion has gained him a worldwide network of fellow enthusiasts, and with his chief engineer, he logs every improvement and alteration fitted inside and outside the locomotive. He even turns up at 2 o’clock in the morning to watch her being ‘fired-up’ at Carr Locomotive Depot at Doncaster, where the engine is based. He has now shed the responsibilities of business, and regards Flying Scotsman and her operation as a full-time job, and his visit with the famous engine to North America in 1969 sees the fulfilment of yet another ambition. To him, railways and the great locomotives that ran along them, are not just a hobby – they are a consuming, life-long interest.   All pictures are of the actual item.
