Item description
Railway luggage labels were once commonplace in Great Britain – railway companies pasted these small slips of paper on to luggage and parcels to ensure that they reached their destination safely and via the correct route.
This collection was produced by the Great Eastern Railway (GER) who operated services across East Anglia between 1862 and 1922, when it was “grouped” into the London & North Eastern Railway.
Every one of these labels is a genuine, original label, and while most are in fantastic condition, a few show some signs of wear or damage appropriate to their age. The photos on this listing show the actual labels that are available for purchase, they are NOT stock images.
The labels are all approx 3 1/2 inches (9cm) in width, and vary in height from 1 3/4 in (4.5cm) to 2 1/4in (5.5cm) in height. Most are buff coloured, with some being on green or pink paper.
