Nice little group of vintage collectable that came from a clearance and were owned by a former employee of GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY.
They are…
a) GWR oval ‘RAILWAY SERVICE’ button/badge with the issue number ‘27050’ stamped on the back and signed by the maker ‘FATTORINI & SONS LTD. B’HAM’.The badge comprises of an oval with blue enamel raises middle bar with the wording RAILWAY SERVICE. Above this is a locomotive and below the wording G.W.R. This badge measures 33.5mm by 22.36mm and has a fitting on the back to fit through a button hole.
b) Small Brass button with lettering GWR on back stamped ‘special quality’. Button is 17.05mm diameter.
c) Half round (D shape) solid copper GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY PAY CHEQUE token. Numbered in centre 88.
d) Half round (D shape) solid copper GREAT WESTERN RAILWAY PAY CHEQUE token. Numbered in centre 55.
e) Hexagonal solid copper token signed ‘G.W.R. MAINTENANCE DEPT’ ‘PAY CHEQUE’ and numbered in centre 59.
f) Hexagonal solid copper token signed ‘G.W.R. MAINTENANCE DEPT’ ‘PAY CHEQUE’ and numbered in centre 239.
g) These were found in the photographed steel or iron metal lidded drum shaped contained which is stamped on the top ‘L’ ‘1637’.It measures 43.83mm diameter and stands 32.04mm tall.
