These are two Great Western Railway publications from Paddington. The first is an uncommon promotional document aimed at the US market which features a King on its cover extolling the GWR as ‘The Quickest Route New York to London via Plymouth.’ The 22 page booklet dates from 1927 after the Plymouth-London services were speeded up with the introduction of the King class. The GWR’s main advantage was saving the sailing time on the Southampton destination but it did not succeed in displacing the Cunard/SR mix. The document is string bound and features a fold out diagram of North Star and the GWR system map. The contents are unmarked, very bright and uncreased. As you can see the card cover suffers from the customary foxing. The second publication is a commemorative 20 page souvenir for the Great Exhibition of 1924 at Wembley which featured Caerphilly Castle. The contents include the large fold out map and 3 tipped in colour illustrations of GW destinations. The booklet is again string bound, no foxing to the cover but there is slight foxing occasionally to the contents pages. I have set a realistic start price at less than half of their cost to me some years ago.
