The 1921 Railways Act amalgamating the companies into the Big Four in 1923 continued the progress up to the Summer of 1939. With post-war rapid growth of car ownership and road freight, rationalisation gathered pace. The wholesale line closures of the 1950s-1960s resulted in one-time humble railway tickets becoming lasting iconic mementos of a lost age and lifestyle.

Hednesford closed to passengers on 18 January 1965 and to goods traffic on 6 September the same year as a result of the Beeching Axe, though the line that passed through remained in use for goods & mineral traffic, serving the power station at Rugeley and various local collieries.The station reopened in 1989 as the terminus of the first stage of the reopening of the Chase Line from Wallsall to passenger trains.
The present Bloxwich station opened at the same time. The original Bloxwich station existed a few hundred yards to the south, just north of the level crossing That station closed to passengers on 18 January 1965 and to goods on 10 August 1964.————————————————Excellent Clean Uncreased Condition
