An original LNER series Carriage Print issued in the late 1940s/ early 1950s for display in railway carriages. The print survived from the railway stores in the late 1960s and is NOT a reproduction. The location is the River Wharfe at Ilkley, Yorkshire. This view of the spa town of Ilkley is dominated by the elder of the two bridges across the River Wharfe in Ilkley. A bridge was here by the mid 15th century. Various floods washed structures away thereafter and what is seen is likely to be from the late 1600s. Motor traffic has long been banned, a newer bridge having been built downstream. The scene remains pleasant and the river continues to attract rowers, with refreshments at the pub alongside. The painting is by the renowned poster artist Frank Sherwin RI. These prints are very collectable and are far easier to display than a railway poster (and less expensive, too!). A good opportunity to collect one of the less rare prints at a reasonable price. Overall Size 20″ x 10″ (508 x 254mm), Image Size 16″ x 6″.
