A LMS locomotive gauge glass protector in brass or possibly gunmetal heavy cast frame, complete with the four removable glass block windows. Before anyone asks, I’m a GWR fan, so I’m afraid I can’t tell you what class of loco the protector is from! Of the four glass blocks, one has chips off two corners (see photos), but these are not visible when the glasses are mounted in the metal frame. The same piece also has some vertical score marks on the outside. The retaining pin which holds the two sides of the frame together is missing. The two swivel lugs which retain the glasses are both present, and both sides of the frame are stamped ‘LMS’ on the top surface.
Overall height is of the protector is 154mm, and the central hole accommodates a maximum 30mm diameter pipe. Weight is about 3kg. This is a super talking-point for any railway room!
