Locomotive Advertising inAmerica, 1850-1900. This is one of the Long Ago Books seriesfrom Chandler Press of Maynard, Massachusetts (1989). Stapled softcover;printed on heavy paper/light cardstock; 32 pages; approx 8 x 5.          Wonderful full page andhalf page ads from the period, reproduced in all their glory. From the briefpreface: Locomotive and car builders were taking advantage of the woodengravers and type designers skills and the combination provided some of themost beautiful results in the history of American advertisingespecially toRailroad enthusiasts. It is likely that many of these illustrations have beenlost in their original publications, so this piece serves well to preservethem.          Collectible in severalfields: railroad history, advertising, type design, graphic arts, 19thcentury Americana, and more.          Book condition: exteriorshows some wear and smudging; the interior is very clean.
