Have step box or step stool that is in need of a Morton Manufacturing tag? Here is the deal. This is a reproduced replacement tag. I want to make it very clear that this is not an original tag. This tag is identical to the Morton tag on my Union Pacific step box. As far as I can ascertain, there were variations of the Morton Manufacturing tag. You can see this yourself by scanning some of the step boxes listed for sale here on Ebay.
The tag measures 2 3/4 inches long by 3/4 inch wide. It is made of a brushed aluminum and the reverse of the tag can be seen in photo number 2. The thickness of the aluminum is 24 ga. The border around the tag measures 1/8 inch. It lacks any holes because every step box may vary and when you go to drill out the old rivets, the original holes may become enlarged. In any event, this can easily be drilled to match whatever hole you may end up with.
If the tag on your step box is missing, crinkled from being banged around, painted over or whatever it might be, here is a nice solution to the problem. Again, this is not an original tag. It is a copy of a later version of the Morton tag. This IS a very economical way to dress up that newly restored and repainted step box. Give the old box a sprucing up with this Morton Manufacturing tag.
