LOCATION: Bluebell Railway, West SussexDATE: Undated circa 1960SUBJECT: A related pair of early UK standard gauge preservation photographs depicting ex-LBSCR Stroudley A1x Class Terrier 0-6-0TStepney No. 55 & ex-SECR Wainwright P Class 0-6-0T Bluebell No. 323 seen here at what was tobecome a substantial Locomotive Depot and Works at Sheffield Park and takenshortly after the heritage railway began operations.Furthest is ex-SE&CR Wainwrightclass P 0-6-0T No. 323 ‘Bluebell’ (built 4/1910, ran on the SR as A323, then1323 and BR 31323, withdrawn 6/60). Purchased directly by the Bluebell RailwayPreservation Society, it became with A1X No. 55 the founders of the Bluebell motivepower operations in 1960. I have not been able toidentify the family in the photographs but I like to think that the father was perhaps a founding member of the linespreservation society it did not seem appropriate to split them, so I am selling the photographs together.
