RailroadTreasures offers the following item:  Observer’s Book Of Railway Locomotives Of Britain, The Casserley 1958 HC  The Observers Book Of Railway Locomotives Of Britain By H C Casserley HARD COVER 1958 EDITION 286 PagesPREFACETHIS little volume is primarily intended as a pocket-book to enable the observer to recognise the majority of locomotives he sees in his wanderings through either familiar or unfamiliar territory, showing him at a glance their histories, specifications and performances. The essential descriptions given will he found more than sufficient to enable an engine to be recognised easily without excessive technical skill or engineering knowledge, providing the book is used correctly. To this end it is recommended that the method of use outlined on pages 24 to 26 is followed as closely as possible. The greater part of the book is devoted to steam locomotives, as they have a far greater general appeal than the more recent electrics and diesels which are destined gradually to replace them. As the numbers of the latter increase, it may be necessary in future editions to give more space to their description, but so long as the well-loved steam locomotives still remain with us in considerable number the major pan of this book will be devoted to them. Particulars have been brought up to date to early 1962, hut as the scrapping of steam locomotives proceeds apace, some classes now shown may be extinct by the time the book appears in print. The writer desires to express to the Public Relations Officers of the various Regions of British Railways and the British Transport Commission his thanks for their kind co-operation and their permission to use some official pictures of the locomotives illustrated on pages 124, 150, 198, 211, 221, 223, 225, 233, 235, 242, 244, 245. 249, and 254. The coloured plates are from transparencies which are the work of Mr R. C. Riley.
