RailroadTreasures offers the following item:  One Hundred Fifty Years Of History Along RF&P Richmond Fredericksburg Potomac  One Hundred Fifty Years Of History Along The Richmond Fredericksburg And Potomac Railroad By William Griffin Jr 168 Pages Hard Cover 1984 SIGNEDThe Richmond, Fredericksburg and Potomac Railroad Company is the only American railroad that has existed and operated for more than a century under its original name and without reorganization. Chartered in 1834, the RF&P will mark its 150th anniversary on February 25. 1984. This book has been published by the Company to commemorate that unique anniversary.Perhaps a word about the book’s format is in order. Along the RF&P had its beginning in 1977 when the author began writing a serialized history of the railroad for the Company magazine, “Rail-O-Gram.” Those articles have now been brought together in this one volume. In some instances, the original text has been revised and updated. New chapters have also been added and the former magazine articles arranged into chapters so as to hopefully give some continuity to what is in reality a collection of separate entities. The first three chapters trace the railroad’s early history from its incorporation in 1834 to the formation of the “Richmond-Washington Line” in 1901. The following chapters focus on the history of the railroad as seen through its relationship with the communities that lie along the right-of-way. The book concludes with chapters highlighting the Company’s distinctive motive power, and the operations today. In his research, the author relied heavily on two booklets about the RF&P by former Traffic Manager, Mr. John B. Mordecai and a book, The Richmond-Washington Line, by Mr. Richard E. Prince. Mr. Mordecai’s booklets were published by the Company in the 1940’s and highlight the Company’s developments up to and including the Second World War. Mr. Prince’s book is largely devoted to the RF&P’s steam locomotives. The photographs in this book have come from a wide variety of sources. This book is dedicated to all RF&P employees, past and present, who have made possible the achievements described in this book.
