THEY APPEAR TO BE FACING NORTH FROM WHICH I ASSUME THAT THEY ARE WAITING TO BANK EMPTY COAL TRAINS FROM CARDIFF AND BARRY DOCKS BACK UP TO THE COLLIERIES IN THE MOUNTAINS. 3400 AND 3402 WERE AMONG THE VERY LAST LOCOS TO BE BUILT FOR BRITISH RAILWAYS BY THE YORKSHIRE ENGINE COMPANY TO A GWR DESIGN EMERGING FROM THE WORKS IN 1955. AFTER A WORKING LIFE OF ONLY 8 YEARS THEIR DAYS ARE NUMBERED LIKE THE COAL TRAFFIC THEY ARE HELPING EVEN THOUGH THEY ARE PUTTING ON A BRAVE SHOW.
