VINTAGE PUNCH, VERY NICE ITEM.
ABOUTTHE PUNCH: This vintage V-P conductor’s ticket punch measures 4.86″tall by 2.39″ wide by 0.655″ thick and weighs approximately5.5 ounces (157 grams). This punch would have likely been used on atrolley line, bus line or railroad by the driver or conductor topunch-cancel passenger’s tickets. These types of punches were alsoused as Bond punches. Bond punches were used to punch holes instock and bond certificates when they were canceled, cashed-in orvoided. This punch isin very-good condition with only trace amounts of plating loss /rust.ABOUTTHE PUNCH DIE: Punches a round hole (please see the listing’s photographs to seethe exact punch pattern).ABOUTTHE PUNCH’S MANUFACTURER: V-P. According to a 1921 advertisement, at that time, theBonney-Vehslage Tool Company was located at 61 New Jersey Rail RoadAve., Newark, New Jersey. The companystarted manufacturing high-quality ticket punches in 1906 for thelargest railway and railroad systems in the United States. Much to oursurprise, the company is still in business today (having sincerelocated to Springfield, New Jersey). SPECIALOR UNUSUAL FEATURES: Bares the manufacturer’s maker’s trademarked B-V stamp on theinside of the grip. This was one of B-V’s deluxe punches (in thatthe throat included an adjustable indexed stop). The stop wasdesigned to save conductors time when punching tickets that haddouble or triple rows of information (such as days in a calendarmonth) that typically ran along the longest side of the ticket.
