Profusely illustrated in colour, a quality publication.The Railway Heritage Trust is an independentregistered company limited by guarantee. It is sponsored by Network Rail andHighways England (Historical Railways Estate). British Rail set up the Trust in1985 as an independent company, to assist the operational railway in itspreservation and upkeep of listed buildings and structures, and to facilitatethe transfer of non-operational premises and structures to outside bodieswilling to undertake their preservation.
The Trust’s role is tosupport with grants the conservation and restoration of historic railwaybuildings and structures in the ownership of the Trust’s sponsors. It acts as acatalyst between those owners and outside parties on conservation and re-use ofthe built railway heritage.The job of safeguarding the assets, created and passed down to us allthose years ago, is carried out with enthusiasm by the Trust, working withindividuals, main line and heritage railways, conservation bodies, local andcentral government, and anyone else involved in the job of keeping past,present and future in harmony.
