  VOLUME 9    ROUTES FROM STIRLING
Originally marking the furthest navigable section of the River Forth, the ancient Royal Burgh of Stirling formed a natural meeting point of road and rail routes. Some of the town’s rail links are long gone, but Stirling remains an important focal point on Scotland’s rail network. Using film shot between the 1950s and 1990s, the programme opens
with views of Stirling station amd its surroundings before heading north- east by steam traction to Callander, Killin Junction and the branch to Killin. Further west, views of Oban and Connel Ferry, with its famous dual road and rail bridge, complete coverage of Stirling’s coastal link. Next to be featured is the main line station at Gleneagles, formally linked by a nine mile branch line to the market town of Crief and adjacent village of Carmie. Crieff, with its magnificent station, was served from both Stirling and Perth. Both these routes are featured with steam and diesel traction. Also included is rare footage of the Royal Navy’s locomotive at Almondbank. Travelling south from Stirling through Larbert, the former railbus service between Falkirk and Grangemouth is featured, together with views of Grangemouth’s steam depot. Steam operations at Polmont and Bathgate – with its many stored locomotives – are complemented by film of the fascinating narrow gauge system at Winchburgh. To the east of Stirling lies the former junction town of Alloa and by means of a steam-powered swing bridge at nearby Throsk, Alloa was linked to the Glasgow main line at Larbert. Fascinating action views of this now closed bridge which spanned the Forth are shown, together with shipping heading for the nearby armaments depot. Striking north-east, the Devon Valley line linked Alloa to Perth via Kinross and on this route scenes at Tillicoultry, Dollar and Rumbling Bridge are highlighted. 62 MINS POSTAGE DISCOUNTS FOR MULTIPLE PURCHASES ARE AVAILABLE.
