Please scroll down for more photos Rare Vtg Antique RAILWAY TOOL W GILPIN Patent Wood Wooden Handle Iron Drill VGCThis is an extremely RARE TOOL.This is a haqndheld drill used for making holes in Railway Sleepers such that the track could be bolted to the wooden sleeper.This has lovely markings.It is in excellent condition , with a wooden handle that has a fabulous patina.The drill head has a small section to get the hole started , then widens to take the bolt.This is stampedW GILPIN with a crossed sword or similar motif and the word PATENT.There is another stamped word that I cannot fully read , it says WEDHGESMILL or something very similar.This dates to the 19th century and is probably mid to late Victorian.It measures over 31 inches in length. The wooden handle has also been nicely turned .A fabulous piece for any Railwayana enthusiast.I cannot find another one anywhere on the internet.GRAB A BARGAIN.
