Finally the end of each chapter contains detailed data onelevations, place name origins and mileages for each line. Profuselyillustrated. The books were not reprinted when the Canadian government dramatically cut 55%of the passenger lines then running in Canada in January of 1990, but theyremain very useful today. However now not only have some services been restored, such as Calgaryto Banff and Vancouver, but lines that no longer see regular service getfascinating coverage as well (by way of example the “Canadian” trainnow takes the routing of the “Super Continental”). And for those lucky enough to travel today on Via Rail orthe Rocky Mountaineer, it is a super book to have with you as the miles unfold.Bill Coo was aconductor for the Canadian railways and later was the director of tours for VIARAIL Canada, which took over the operation of the Canadian Pacific and CanadianNational passenger services. He wrote two books about the passenger railservices of Eastern and Western Canada.
