Southern Railway luggage label, as shownPre-grouping railway labels date from before January 1923, when the GWR, LMS, LNER & SR were formed from an amalgamation of Companies in their area of operation. In turn these Companies were nationalised on 1st January 1948 to form British Railways. Where a date is shown, eg: 2-98, 1/23; that signifies the month & year of printing in the 19th or 20th C.
