LOCATION: Stillington North Junction, Co. Durham
DATE: c. 1960
SUBJECT: Aview of the signal cabin with anunidentified ‘BR Gresley V2 Class 2-6-2 seen here easingpassenger stock off the line from Ferryhill. The V2s were the LNER’s most famous mixedtraffic design, and they were one of Gresley’s most successful locomotive types. A view of StillingtonNorth Junction and signal box which controlled the junctionfor the Simpasture branch to Aycliffe (tracks in foreground), and the line toFerryhill from Stillington. The signal cabin hadglazing all round and is jettied on both sides. A station had been built at Stillington in 1838 but it was demolished in1965 following a fire.
CONDITION: Good clean &unmarked, save for photographers identification details neatly handwritten toreverse. Always kept in an album.
