The original archive film was taken with the usual Jim Clemens eye for detail. Covers the Midland lines & branches around Worcestershire & South Birmingham including the Lickey Incline & the alternative route through Redditch & Eversham.
A programme on the Midland lines through the county of Worcestershire. Follow the main Birmingham to Gloucester line via the famous Lickey incline to Ashchurch. The alternative loop line from Barnt Green via Redditch and Evesham to Ashchurch with Fowler 2-6-4 tanks and Ivatt moguls visiting all stations on this route.
The Lickey incline is covered in great detail from lineside and footplate in the early 1960s. There is a short visit to Saltley shed and the joint Midland branch to Halesowen and Rubery. At Ashchurch the branch to Upton-On-Severn via Tewkesbury is followed before its demise in 1961.
There are 2F, 3F, 4F and Jubilees, BR Standards and GW Halls, Granges and 28xx classes. Jinties, Fowler tanks and a Midland compound also appear alongside Black 5s and Staniers 8Fs. Filmed from 1959, this nearly all colour film shows what the railways were like in the steam age. By blending with authentic sounds taken at the time, this programme is brought to life, from an era when even small villages had a railway station.Approx. 60 minutes.
